How Shirley Found Her Footing and Stepped into Business Success

Name of Business: Podospa

Business Type: Podiatry Practice

Location: Bolivia

There are four people in my family, and we are all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’m the youngest of my sisters, and we went through some hard times when my dad passed away. Since then, I have tried out all kinds of ventures to be able to improve myself and help my family, including selling clothes, jewelry, and food.

After I finished my nursing studies, I started working, but I had a very low salary and worked really long hours. Because of this, I began to specialize in podiatry and decided to open my own office. The decision was not easy, so I fasted and prayed to my Heavenly Father for guidance. With His help, I decided to put my plan into practice.

When I first opened my office, my vision was limited. I did not fully understand the potential for growth or how to manage a business. I took the Church’s self-reliance courses and learned how to start and grow my business. Thanks to the Academy, I learned new business principles, and I made significant changes, like paying myself a fair salary and having proper practice records, which helped me manage and grow my business.

The Academy helped me to broaden my knowledge about and the vision for my business. I have new goals—I want to be a nationally recognized podiatry office.

My business helps me be self-reliant. I can help my mother, save money, and grow my business. I have also recognized that just as I helped my family, I can also help other people achieve their goals and become self-reliant.

As a nurse, I couldn’t imagine having my own office someday, but thanks to my Heavenly Father and the Academy for Creating Enterprise, I was able to realize my dreams and achieve my goals.

I am deeply grateful for the challenges, growth, and blessings that have come my way. Even though it has been a lot of hard work and effort, and even knowing that I still have many more obstacles to overcome, I now have the knowledge I need and faith in my Heavenly Father.
