Women of the Academy: Kathryn G. Ramirez
Kathryn G. Ramirez is a mother and an Academy entrepreneur since 2011. By following Academy principles has helped her have a more profitable business and help people in her community by providing employment.
Business: I started a laundry services business 4 years ago. Now my shop has grown to 8 branches in different locations with additional 2 more shops to add this year, totaling to 10 shops this year. My plan next year is to open up a sewing studio to offer all kinds of sewing services and also offer to teach sewing and dressmaking to kids and adults.
In her own words:
“I joined the self-reliance classes on starting a business without much expectation. My Sunday afternoons were free so I joined anyway. Understanding business principles and applying it to your business idea is very important. Without my training from the Academy I would probably make more mistakes that would be costly on my part. Having my own profitable business changed my life because I now became a help meet to my husband in our family’s finances. Being an employer also puts me in a position to better help people in more need than I, especially to those whom I employ. And most importantly, I get to serve a big part of our community by providing laundry services to those who don’t like to do laundry work. The biggest change in my life was learning how to manage money and learning how to make it work hard for me.“
